A guide to what pet industry PR agencies do, how we create value, and what you can expect to pay for our services.

What Is Public Relations?

Public Relations (PR) is the practice of managing how people perceive your business, organisation, product, and brand and applies for small founder-lead businesses through to large charities and corporations.

Many people assume PR is simply sending press releases to journalists. In reality, that's only a teeny tiny part of what it involves. PR is actually everything associated with communicating who a business is, its values, people and mission. Its ensuring that collaborations are positive and align with the values of the business and its about creating opportunities to communicate these ideas and values through events, media appearances, influencer collaborations and social media management.

Good PR is about building trust, creating meaningful stories, managing reputation, and ensuring the right people hear about your business for the right reasons.

In simple terms:

Marketing helps people find you.

PR helps people find you and trust you.

Both are important, but they play different roles.

While marketing often focuses on generating sales and leads, PR focuses on credibility, reputation, awareness, and relationships.

In an industry built on trust, that matters more than ever, which is why a relationship lead approach works so well.

Why PR Matters in the Pet Industry

Unlike many sectors, pet businesses aren't just selling products or services, they are supporting relationships between people and animals. This can mean anything from the provision of a suitable diet to support a healthy pet and lifelong healthy relationship through to accessories that support enjoying activities together or services that rehabilitate.

Pet owners are emotionally invested in their purchasing decisions. They want to know that a brand genuinely cares about animal welfare, understands their needs, and shares their values. This is where we come in. With PR services that are fluent in animal behaviour, welfare, physiology and up to date science, we can ensure that your message is not only responsible, but also in line with current trends and the most recent science.

That means that your relationship with your client and the wider animal welfare world has a significant impact on buying behaviour.

Whether you're launching a new dog food, opening a grooming salon, running a rescue charity, or promoting a veterinary practice, PR helps establish the credibility that encourages people to choose you over competitors.

What Does Pet Industry PR Actually Do?

A good pet-industry PR strategy goes far beyond media coverage. It encompasses all aspects associated with brand values, reputation and relationships.

It can include:

Media Relations

Building relationships with journalists, editors, producers, podcasters, bloggers, and influencers who cover pets, animals, lifestyle, business, retail, and veterinary topics.

Pet industry PR helps discover and craft newsworthy stories that are formatted to a specific publications scope.

We regularaly help secure coverage in:

Brand Storytelling

Every pet business has a story.

Maybe your founder created a product after struggling with their own dog's health. Perhaps your rescue has transformed thousands of animal lives. Maybe your retail business is helping pet owners make more sustainable choices. Pet industry PR helps businesses and charities to uncover and harness their story to communicate brand values and mission as well as form collaborations with other businesses, influencers and organisations who share these values. The pet industry requires humanity and emotion to inspire trust, trust is pivotal when building a pet brand and maintaining that trust is the factor that grows a business. Our PR services can ensure that your messaging remains on brand to inspire trust and support growth.

Thought Leadership

People trust experts.

PR can position business owners, veterinary professionals, trainers, behaviourists, nutritionists, manufacturers and charity leaders as trusted voices within the industry. Thought leadership builds trust with both customers and other industry experts. Our pet industry PR services around thought leadership can also draw upon our many years experience within the industry in connecting your business with well known pet industry experts that can leverage their expertise in promoting your brand.

Award Entries and Recognition

Industry awards provide valuable third-party credibility.

Many pet businesses underestimate the impact of being shortlisted for respected awards. Recognition can improve customer trust, attract media coverage, strengthen recruitment efforts, and create new commercial opportunities. We can help identify awards as well as write and submit your award application.

Community Building and Social Media Management

The pet industry thrives on relationships. In the digital world communities exist in various shapes and sizes, but the seeds to many are now formed on digital platforms and later grown into off platform communities with community events that support your mission.

Our social media management services build brand awareness, increase engagement with brand storytelling and relatable problem solving content as well as direct promotion to increase sales. This can later be translated to in person events, launches, roadshows and exhibitions.

PR helps businesses engage with customers, rescue organisations, charities, veterinary professionals, retailers, influencers, and industry partners to create stronger communities around their brands.

PR Looks Different Across the Pet Industry

The beauty of PR is that it isn't one-size-fits-all.

A pet food manufacturer may focus on product innovation and retailer relationships.

A veterinary practice might prioritise expert education and community trust.

A rescue charity may use PR to increase donations, encourage adoptions, and raise awareness of welfare issues.

A dog trainer could focus on thought leadership, education, and responsible ownership campaigns.

The objectives may differ, but the principle remains the same:

Build trust, create visibility, and strengthen reputation. And we can support you in this.

PR Isn't Just for Big Brands

One of the biggest misconceptions about PR is that it's only for major companies with huge budgets.

In reality, some of the most effective pet-industry PR campaigns come from small businesses, charities, and independent brands with compelling stories to tell.

You don't need a massive budget to become newsworthy, form relationships, build collaborations or develop a community. You just need a story, great brand values and a mission that resonates.

How Do You Know If Your Pet Business Needs PR?

You may benefit from PR if you want to:

  • Increase brand awareness

  • Launch a new product or service

  • Attract customers or clients

  • Build industry credibility

  • Become recognised as an expert

  • Win awards

  • Improve media visibility

  • Strengthen stakeholder relationships

  • Support fundraising efforts

  • Manage your reputation

If your goal is simply short-term sales, advertising may be the answer.

If your goal is long-term trust, recognition, and credibility, PR should be part of your strategy.

Our Basic Pricing Structure

Our pricing system can be booked on a modular pick and mix style system or as package pricing, both of these options can be set up as a monthly retainer or as standalone services depending on the service required and the scope of the work. Some projects may be better suited to limited monthly retainer, for example a 6 month booster or you may wish us to provide continuous rolling support with a minimum booking of 12 months.

No two businesses are the same and as such no two PR bookings are the same either, so whilst the below framework can provide a guidance, we can be flexible with our approach to ensure that you are supported in all the right places.

We are transparent about our pricing as no business, however big or small should feel intimidated by the idea of hiring support. Whether you are a solo dog behaviour consultant or therapist through to a large corporation we want to support the pet industry as a whole, because it is an industry that matters and the platforms that we grow within the pet industry have an incredible responsibility to communicate ethically.

PR isn't about chasing headlines for the sake of it.

It's about helping people understand who you are, what you stand for, and why they should trust you.

In a pet industry built on relationships, welfare, expertise, and emotional connection, that trust can be one of the most valuable assets your organisation owns.

Whether you're a pet brand, retailer, veterinary practice, trainer, rescue, charity, service provider, or startup, effective PR can help ensure your story reaches the people who matter most and should be accessible to all.

Because when people trust your brand, they're far more likely to support it, recommend it, and remember it and that in turn contributes to a pet industry that we all want to be a part of.
